Director of Finance

The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is a charitable not for profit youth focused family centered hub that gives power of voice to immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families. CBFY is a core leader within the youth domain in the Calgary settlement and integration sector. CBFY works in collaboration with the two public school boards in Calgary, Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District to ensure that youth and their families are equitably engaged to thrive.
Job Objective:
- The Director of Finance will be a strategic thought-partner, and innovator and report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
- Provides leadership and direction to the Finance/Accounting group to support the agency’s operations and strategic goals.
- The Director of Finance will play a critical role in partnering with the leadership team in strategic decision making and operations as CBFY continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Lead all budgeting and business planning. As a member of the leadership team, work closely with the finance and audit committee of the board of directors.
- Lead CBFY’s Finance/Accounting team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to achieve full compliance with CBFY’s five-year strategic priorities and business plan in the finance related context.
- Leads the annual financial planning and budget process with the CEO and Director of Program
- Full responsibility for the management of the agency’s operating, IT and capital budgets.
- Manage daily cash reporting and create rolling monthly cash flow forecasts to give leadership clear insight into both short- and long-term cash requirements
- Coordinates all timelines, deadlines and deliverables for the finance department.
- Develops and maintains the framework, policies and procedures for appropriate accounting and internal control.
- Works with external auditors on the agency’s annual audit.
- Works with government and private funders on all issues relating to budgets, contractual reporting and financial management.
- Support executive team with internal and board reporting, delivering insights that drive data-informed decision-making.
- Ensures compliance with the Societies Act and non-profit legislation.
- Meets all reporting and remittance obligations to government and other appropriate bodies.
- In consultation with the CEO, develops internal processes to monitor and manage CBFY’s compliance with all applicable privacy and confidentiality legislation.
- Reviews and monitors business continuity, IT network and physical security arrangements and defenses deployed to optimize security within affordable limits.
- Reviews and monitors redundancy strategies to minimize business interruptions.
- Supports all internal and external events related to agency operations.
- Collaborates with managers to collectively achieve consistency of practice, culture and exemplary leadership throughout finance department

Qualifications and Requirements:
- A University degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in an accounting role and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Certified Professional Accountant with exposure to full-cycle accounting is required.
- Experience with federal government funding applications, requirements and reporting is required.
- Knowledge and adherence to financial accounting, annual budget, and strategic long-range planning processes.
- Ability to manage and identify business risks and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
- Ability to diagnose, develop, and deploy organizational improvement initiatives at all levels.
- A passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring others.
- Experience and understanding of the social services sector in Calgary.
- Computer literacy and strong communication skills including writing skills.
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Appreciation and knowledge of cultural diversity.
