CBFY Volunteers came together to discuss the lasting impacts of volunteering.
The fourth and final episode of Bridge Circle’s second season celebrated service and personal growth. Meaningful conversations and shared stories highlighted the impact of volunteering, creating a welcoming space for participants to introduce themselves, share backgrounds, and reflect on how volunteering brings belonging and purpose.
Arnida, our devoted volunteer coordinator, invited Shannon Stannard, CBFY’s Board Chair, to share her volunteer journey. Shannon briefly recounted how she began volunteering at 15, working with elderly residents. What started as a requirement for her high school diploma evolved into a lifelong passion, showing that even small acts of service can open unexpected doors. Shannon’s reflections set a warm, purposeful tone, reminding everyone why volunteering matters. Throughout the session, Shannon emphasized the transformative power of volunteering: how it nurtures empathy, helps us overcome isolation, and reminds us of our shared humanity.

After introductions, Shannon led the group through two reflective activities. First, she asked each volunteer to recall a memorable volunteering experience – one that still resonated, shaped their perspective, or influenced their growth. Volunteers shared powerful stories: one remembered comforting a young family in distress, another described how a small act of kindness helped them regain confidence. These reflections revealed how a single experience can ripple through a volunteer’s life, leaving a lasting mark on their sense of purpose.
Next, Shannon asked the group to consider one small action they take as volunteers and trace its ripple effects. A smile can lift someone’s day; a small encouragement can inspire persistence; over time, these tiny ripples can create waves of transformation, impacting families, neighbourhoods, and even generations.
After the emotional reflections, Arnida honoured each volunteer with a certificate of appreciation. The gratitude in the room was palpable as volunteers shared special moments – those experiences that linger in their hearts and continue to shape their commitment.

As the season concluded, Bridge Circle stood as a beacon of belonging. Each volunteer walked away with a deeper sense of purpose, knowing that their time and care not only built bridges for others but also shaped them as individuals. In every act of service, they discovered that they were not just giving; they were growing, belonging, and making a difference together.
