Program Manager - Communities

The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is a charitable not for profit youth focused family centered hub that gives power of voice to immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families. CBFY is a core leader within the youth domain in the Calgary settlement and integration sector. CBFY works in collaboration with the two public school boards in Calgary, Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District to ensure that youth and their families are equitably engaged to thrive.

About the Position:

The Program Manager – Communities will bring vision and innovative thinking while supporting the work of a wide variety of communities within the CBFY circle – communities of practice within CBFY, school communities, cultural communities, sector partnerships and connections, outreach possibilities and other related stakeholders including our community of funders and potential funders. This position will anticipate future trends and collaboratively explore program initiatives to support newcomer youth re-settlement in schools. The Program Manager – Communities will coordinate the Communications/Public Relations plans for CBFY and collaboratively support best possible education re-settlement opportunities for immigrant and refugee youth to thrive as new Canadians. Collaborating closely with the CBFY Executive Team, other CBFY Managers and Supervisors, as well as sector partners and our two school boards, the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District, this position will require flexible, nimble and responsive approaches to the immigration environment, utilizing shared strategies to advance education re-settlement such as case management, training and professional development to maximize the potential of the CBFY client population. This position reports directly to the Director of Programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the CBFY Executive Team and other CBFY Managers, provide strategic vision and thoughtful leadership to support CBFY programmatic objectives and the CBFY strategic plans.
  • Collaboratively develop, implement, monitor, and guide an agency-wide Communications Plan including website, print, digital and social media, as well as advancing positive Public Relations in the community to successfully represent CBFY as a strong partner with program sector agencies as well as community-based organizations, school boards and social service agencies.
  • Collaboratively develop and implement effective outreach opportunities to ensure a responsive, nimble support to unanticipated needs.
  • Champion and collaboratively develop re-settlement initiatives through a variety of communities of practice, including in-person and virtual opportunities, in-school and community programs and initiatives, immigrant and refugee youth focused conferences and community events, summer camp opportunities and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaboratively support CBFY Committees cross-agency to ensure multiple perspectives and contributions from all staff to encourage transparent communication and decision making related to identified organizational practices.
  • Collaboratively coordinate planning, development, and implementation of organizational special events, including the Youth Achievement Awards, Volunteer Awards and any other notable community events, fundraising events, etc.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with sector partners with participation and support of non-profit special events, hosting conferences and shared experiences, etc.
  • Collaborate with other CBFY Managers and Executive Team to monitor and evaluate programs, contribute to effective, accurate reporting to funders and the community at large.
  • Collaboratively coordinate communities of schools and CBFY staff to ensure program continuity, effectiveness, clarity, and cohesion across CBFY to best meet the educational re-settlement needs of clients and schools. .
  • Proactively identify issues and risks related to communication and community initiatives, and collaboratively develop relevant course corrections to program, communication, or policy changes.
  • Coordinate and collaborate corporate celebratory and fundraising events with CBFY Leadership Team and staff committees.
  • Collaboratively contribute to the effective management and evaluation of programs, including program performance monitoring, monthly, quarterly, or annual reports as required.
  • Collaboratively support preparation of grant applications as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and collaborate to develop a unique, specific volunteer team to support CBFY volunteer initiatives within the organization.
  • Ensure CBFY, CBE, CCSD, government regulations, rules and polices are implemented fairly, consistently and with fidelity across the organization.

Occupational Health & Safety:

  • Ensure to take all precautions to protect the staffs’ health and safety.
  • Ensure that staff work in accordance with the legislation.
  • Ensure that staff are not subjected to or participate in harassment or violence.
  • Advise staff of all known or reasonably foreseeable hazards
  • Report on OHS concerns.
  • Cooperate with any person exercising duty under legislation.
  • Comply with legislation.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree(s) in the field of Education, Social Work, Human Services, or a related discipline
  • 5 years minimum experience working in the non-profit sector.
  • 5 years minimum experience in a leadership capacity
  • Proven experience in effective project management
  • Proven experience in people management and program budgeting
  • Experience and knowledge working with diverse ethnocultural communities.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and experience with report and proposal/grant writing.
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • Current Police check or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement of employment.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required.
  • Fluency in another language other than English is considered an asset.
