Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)
Personalized in-school settlement programs
The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS Program), which consists of the In-School Settlement and Mentorship programs, provides support, builds cultural connections, mentors, and guides children and youth as they settle and integrate into their new life in Canada.
Adapting to school in Canada can come with challenges and that’s why we offer a free in-school settlement program for children born outside of Canada. We’ll work with you and your family to build you a customized plan to help you reach your short- and long-term goals and needs.
Our practitioners will help you become a part of your school’s social and cultural community by connecting you to different services and activities while helping you improve your academic skills. Our practitioners can provide you with additional resources to aid in your education and can provide assistance in multiple languages with interpreters available upon request.
They’ll also work with parents to help them understand the Canadian education system and the expectations schools will have.
