Transitioning into Higher Education Program (THP)
Information & guidance for post-secondary studies
At the Transitioning into Higher Education Program, pre-service teachers and international students serve as mentors for newcomer youth. Mentors share resources, knowledge, and information with youth as they transition into post-secondary education or training.
Mentors are matched with groups of three or four mentees. In addition to weekly meetings (1.5 hours), groups may tour campuses and meet with school advisors. The program runs for 10 weeks per semester, twice a school year.
Mentors assist with:
- Career planning and interest
- The application process
- Financing your education
- Student support services
- Academic support
- Clubs and extra-curricular activities
- Alternative learning options
- Online resources and school websites
- Life in post-secondary
The Transitioning into Higher Education Program (THP) is a partnership between the CBFY’s Mentorship Program and the University of Calgary’s Werklund School of Education’s Service-Learning Program.
