About the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY):
The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is a youth-centered and family-focused non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the well-being of newcomer children, youth and families. For over 30 years, CBFY has fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment for newcomers by enriching them with the appropriate skills, information, knowledge and experience as they build a life in Canada. Since 1990, we have proudly helped tens of thousands of immigrant and refugee families settle in Calgary.

Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, and committed individual to join our Board of Directors. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about CBFY’s mission and who is knowledgeable about effective participation on a board as well as board governance and leadership. Board members are champions for CBFY’s mission and are responsible to ensure the Board fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities, including strategic governance, financial oversight, and fundraising support.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Alignment with CBFY’s Mission and Vision: A deep, personal commitment to the empowerment and successful integration of immigrant and refugee youth and families into Canadian society. CBFY’s vision of a future where all immigrant and refugee youth have the opportunities and resources necessary to thrive in Canada should resonate and align with candidates.
- Leadership and Governance Experience: Proven leadership experience, preferably at the board level in the not-for-profit sector. Knowledgeable in governance best practices, strategic planning, and organizational development.
- Diverse Perspectives and Expertise: We value diversity and seek individuals from various backgrounds and areas of expertise including but not limited to education, social work, finance, law, fundraising, marketing, and community engagement.
- Advocacy and Community Engagement: A strong advocate for cultural diversity and inclusion, with the ability to engage with community partners, stakeholders, and donors to further CBFY’s objectives and mission.
- Fundraising and Financial Oversight: Willingness and ability to contribute to fundraising efforts, including identifying and securing funding opportunities, donor engagement, and financial oversight to ensure the organization’s sustainability and growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as an ambassador for CBFY, promoting its goals and securing support from the community and potential donors.
- Prepare for, attend and actively participate in regular Board meetings.
- Proactively engage in the work of ad hoc and permanent Board committees by leveraging your skills, experience and expertise.
- Provide strategic governance and oversight for the organization.
- Support and advise the CEO and Executive Leadership Team in alignment with the strategic direction and mission of CBFY.
- Oversee the financial health and sustainability through oversight and fundraising efforts by reviewing financial reports and participating in fundraising efforts.
Commitment:
This volunteer position requires a commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee meetings, and preparation time. Board terms last 2 years with the possibility for renewal.
