Meet Nnamdi, an incredible example of CBFY’s impact! He arrived in Canada in late 2019 – just months before the pandemic lockdowns began. While COVID-19 was challenging for everyone, the lockdowns had a particularly profound effect on newcomer children and youth already struggling with language barriers and isolation. Despite these obstacles, Nnamdi made the best of a tough situation by joining CBFY’s Mentorship Program. He not only made friends, but also became a Peer Mentor himself. This June he graduated from St. Francis High School and has been accepted into the University of Calgary’s Engineering Program.

This is what he had to say about his experience with CBFY:
“CBFY was very helpful to me, making it easier for me to transition into Canada.  Barely 7 months after my family and I came to Canada, the covid pandemic started. Thanks to CBFY programs, I made friends with fellow newcomers, learned valuable lessons and skills at the various workshops, and was made welcome by all the nice staff and program coordinators. The summer Mentorship programs were especially helpful to me; for the first time in my life I was given the opportunity and responsibility to become a Peer Mentor to someone else, and the programs made it a lot easier for me to adjust to this new land and make friends.”

Congratulations, Nnamdi! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see the incredible things you will achieve. CBFY will be cheering you on every step of the way!
