Tahmina Azimi won our annual Power of Voice poster competition with her line drawing. Tahmina is a student at Nelson Mandela High School and arrived in Canada in 2023.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and so proud to be part of something that celebrates youth voices and creativity,” she said.
The Power of Voice Conference, held each year at the Central Library, is open to students in grades 7-12. The conference is a day for students to celebrate diversity, connect with other students, and discover the strength in their stories.
“Being recognized in the Power of Voice poster contest means so much to me, and it inspires me to keep using my voice to share stories that matter,” Tahmina said. “I’m so grateful to be here and to have this opportunity, thank you for believing in us and our voices.”
At the conference, there will be speakers covering topics including self-expression, mental health, resiliency, and more. Students will be empowered to use their voices for change, learn tools to make an impact in their communities. The conference aims to create a platform where newcomer youth can come together and develop a stronger understanding of voice, identity, and well-being.
This year’s conference will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
“I just wanted to say how truly honoured and proud I am to be part of this,” Tahmina added. “Thank you for creating a space where our voices can be heard, celebrated, and valued.”
